Diss This
As part of my course at the RCA we have to write a 10,000-word dissertation on a topic of our choosing, to be completed between first and second year. Since we have to propose a topic soon I’ve been thinking I’d like to read some of the previous dissertations.
After doing some googling, and digging around on the rather patchy old departmental site (new site coming Real Soon Now), here are some links to Interaction Design dissertations I found on-line…
2005
George Grinsted – The Popularisation of the Hacker Ethic
Joe Malia – Pixel Based Design
2004
Anab Jain – Conversations under the Banyan Tree: India and the West in the New Communication Era (distinction)
2003
Abigail Durrant – Virtual Memory: Vulnerable By Design (Distinction)
Ré Dubhthaigh – The Military Shaping of Contemporary Technology (Distinction)
Christian Nold – Legible Mob (distinction)
2002
Joel Gethin Lewis – Migrations
Tobie Kerridge – Foolish Technology (Distinction)
2001
Jussi Ängeslevä – Evolutionary Computation in Creative Design
Andy Cooke – Electroplasm

Thanks Anab – duly corrected! :-)
I’m really surprised how difficult it has been to get hold of this information – it doesn’t seem to be a priority within the college to organise it into a database or anything.
At least CHS have now entered the 20th century, and this year we can submit drafts for tutors’ comments online, using the moodle vle. Doesn’t mean the first years aren’t all very worried, though!
